Clinical notes

The ADA recommends checking the following at least once per year for diabetic patients: urine albumin to creatinine ratio, lipid panel, complete metabolic panel (for Cr and liver function, potassium if on ACEI/ARB). See ADA Standards of Care 2023, table 4.1. In addition, patients with type 1 diabetes are at increased risk for other autoimmune diseases including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis - given high prevalence, nonspecific symptoms, and often insidious onset of hypothyroidism, routine yearly screening is recommended for all patients with type 1 diabetes.
